The Retail Razzies

Mar 06, 2014 -- 10:45am

The real test of a retail store -- be it a giant big box, a small Mom-and-Pop corner shop or an Internet behemoth -- is customer service, especially when you have a problem. And the worst store for customer service is Wal-Mart, according to the annual American Customer Satisfaction Index, which asked shoppers which retailers offered the best experience based on such factors as convenience of location, the quality of the product, courtesy of the staff and the store layout. The good news: In general, customer satisfaction with U.S. retailers is at an all-time high for the third year in a row, reports 24/7 Wall St. The bad news: Many traditional retailers' customer satisfaction scores are well below average, and this particularly applies to some of the nation's largest retailers.

The top 10 stores with the worst customer service:

  1. Wal-Mart
  2. Rite Aid
  3. CVS
  4. Walgreens
  5. Macy's
  6. Safeway
  7. Best Buy
  8. Gap
  9. SuperValu
  10. Winn-Dixie

So why is Wal-Mart the worse for customer satisfaction? Not only did it have the lowest score of any department or discount store, but also it has the lowest score when it was graded as a supermarket.
