Officials in Porterville, California were recently discussing how to stop bullying. And one idea local kids came up with was to put up signs around the school designating it as a "Safe Zone" for bullying. (Porterville is in the middle of the state, about 70 miles south of Fresno.)
But during a city council meeting, Mayor Cameron Hamilton basically said it was an overreaction . . . and that most kids just need to, quote, "grow a pair and stick up for them damn selves."
Now it's national news, and a lot of people are outraged. But others think he's RIGHT, and that putting up "Safe Zone" signs is just one more idea that would cost a bunch of money without accomplishing anything.
